THE CONSEQUENCES OF THE GREAT WAR
The consequences of the First World War were immense. The prewar world order was swept away in favour of an unstable, almost unobtainable peace, sowing the seeds for another global conflict that would prove even deadlier than the first. Europe was in ruins and drained of its vital forces, and saw its pre-eminence in the world assailed from all sides. The war also turned societies upside down, bringing radical changes, the most extreme forms of which were fascism and Communism.
